Arabian Fragrances, answered

What counts as an Arabian fragrance?

Any perfume, perfume oil, bakhoor or home fragrance from the Arabian perfume tradition, usually from houses in the Gulf such as Lattafa, Rasasi, Afnan and Al Haramain. They lean on oud, amber, rose, saffron and musk.

Is Arabian perfume the same as Middle Eastern perfume?

Yes. Both names describe perfume from the Arabian Peninsula and the wider Gulf, built on oud, amber, rose, saffron and musk. Most of what we carry comes from houses in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, such as Lattafa, Rasasi, Afnan and Ard Al Zaafaran.

What formats do Arabian fragrances come in?

Eau de parfum and extrait sprays, concentrated perfume oils and attars, body sprays and hair mists, bakhoor and incense, and air fresheners for the home.

Should I choose a perfume oil or a spray?

Perfume oils are alcohol free and sit close to the skin for hours, while sprays project further. Many people layer an oil under a spray of a similar scent.

Are the Arabian fragrances at Sara Sakina authentic?

Yes. Sara Sakina sells sealed retail stock from the fragrance houses and their official distributors, and you can smell many of them at our Oakville Place boutique before you buy.

Which Arabian perfume brand is best?

It depends on what you like. Lattafa is best known for sweet gourmands like Khamrah and Yara, Rasasi for polished fresh and oud scents like Hawas, Afnan for bold evening perfumes like 9 PM, and Armaf for Club de Nuit Intense. Sara Sakina also makes four extraits of its own: Qadr, Amazight, Safi and Warda.

Why are Arabian perfumes so affordable?

Houses such as Lattafa and Afnan make their perfumes in the Gulf and sell them under their own names, without designer licensing fees or big fashion campaigns, which keeps prices lower. Price alone says little about quality, so compare the notes and how long each one lasts.
