How to Spot Fake Arabian Perfumes: A Complete Buyer's Guide

by Sara Sakina 17 Mar 2026

The Arabian fragrance market is booming — and unfortunately, so is the counterfeit market. As demand for authentic oud, bakhoor, and attar fragrances grows across North America, dishonest sellers are flooding marketplaces with fake products that look convincing but smell nothing like the real thing.

As North America's only verified authentic Arabian fragrance retailer, we've seen every trick in the book. Here's how to protect yourself.

The Counterfeit Epidemic: How Big Is the Problem?

According to industry estimates, up to 40% of fragrances sold through unauthorized channels may be counterfeit or tampered with. For Arabian fragrances specifically, the problem is even worse because:

  • Many North American consumers are unfamiliar with authentic Arabian packaging
  • Arabic text on packaging makes it harder to verify authenticity
  • Popular brands like Lattafa and Rasasi are heavily counterfeited
  • Marketplace platforms have limited quality control

7 Warning Signs of a Fake Arabian Perfume

1. The Price Is Too Good to Be True

If a fragrance that normally retails for $30-50 is being sold for $8-12, something is wrong. Authentic Arabian fragrances use real ingredients — oud, musk, amber, sandalwood — that have minimum production costs. Extreme discounts usually mean extreme corners were cut.

2. The Juice Color Is Off

Authentic Arabian perfumes have consistent coloring batch to batch. If the liquid in the bottle looks significantly different from official product photos — too light, too dark, or a completely different hue — it may be a counterfeit. Lattafa Raghba, for example, should be a consistent amber-brown. If it's clear or pale yellow, walk away.

3. The Scent Disappears Quickly

One of the hallmarks of authentic Arabian fragrances is longevity. A genuine oud EDP should last 6-10+ hours easily. If your "authentic Arabian perfume" disappears after 30-60 minutes, it's almost certainly fake. Counterfeiters use cheap synthetic oils that evaporate rapidly.

4. The Batch Code Is Missing or Doesn't Verify

Legitimate fragrance houses stamp batch codes on every bottle and box. These codes should match. You can verify many batch codes using services like CheckFresh.com or CheckCosmetic.net. Missing or unverifiable batch codes are a major red flag.

5. The Packaging Quality Is Poor

Look closely at the box and bottle:

  • Is the printing blurry or misaligned?
  • Is the cellophane wrap loose or sloppy?
  • Does the cap fit properly?
  • Is the sprayer mechanism smooth?
  • Are there spelling errors on the box?

Arabian fragrance houses like Lattafa, Al Haramain, and Rasasi take packaging seriously. Their boxes have sharp printing, tight wrapping, and quality materials.

6. The Seller Can't Verify Their Source

Ask the seller: "Where do you source your products?" If they can't name specific distributors or have vague answers like "we buy from importers," be cautious. Legitimate retailers have direct relationships with fragrance houses and can verify their supply chain.

At Sara Sakina, our founder Aymane Zerzkhane has over 10 years of direct relationships with houses like Lattafa, Rasasi, and Al Haramain. We can trace every product back to its source.

7. No Physical Presence or Reputation

Does the seller have a physical location? Customer reviews? Social media presence? A verifiable business history? Fly-by-night sellers with no reputation are the most common source of counterfeits.

Where to Buy Authentic Arabian Perfumes Safely

The safest approach: Buy from verified, authorized retailers. Sara Sakina is the only Arabian fragrance retailer in North America whose authenticity has been recognized by major media outlets including AP News, Yahoo Finance, MarketWatch, Fox, CBS, NBC, and ABC.

You can also visit our physical store at Square One Shopping Centre in Mississauga, Ontario to smell and verify fragrances in person before purchasing.

The Bottom Line: Don't Buy Fakes

Counterfeit fragrances aren't just a bad purchase — they can contain harmful chemicals, allergens, and unregulated ingredients. Protect your health, protect your money, and protect the centuries-old tradition of Arabian perfumery by buying authentic.

It grew on me!!!

I would definitely get this fragrance again. When i first received it i wasn't impressed with it. Smelled a bit like a Barbie, but i kept spraying it at home and then i was like.. do i like it?? Lol now i love it. It smells like a well put together woman. Definitely a dupe for Delina Exclusive. I brought a dupe before but this one is more spot on. It's strong when you first spray it. My bf says it lingered in the car when he dropped me off. My he barely likes my fragrances except flowerbomb, Scandal, Versace bright Crystal and my Marc jacobs perfect by Daisy. I get soooo many compliments with this fragrance. Idk if it's agood blind buy, but i blind bought and love it.

Lovely!

I tried it as a air freshner before purchasing this. I'm glad I took a chance. This is now one of my favorite perfumes, EVER! It's so soft, pretty, and truly smells amazing. I will be ordering again and again.

Lovely lingering scent

The most gorgeous scent. Only sprayed once and lasted till the next day. Refreshing and lovely scent, not too overpowering but scent lingers. I struggle with the western type commercial perfumes because I do not like sickly sweet smelling or the gimmicky products that are just selling a celebrity name and are not even really that great or worth the money. This Arab perfume though solves my problem and is absolutely amazing. Will be my go to for sure.

LavenderEssentials
Soft floral fragrance

These Arabian perfumes last for such a long time that I still have all five bottles that I purchased from 2023/2024. This one smells floral and divine. I love how soft, yet fragrant it fills the room. You can layer it up with other floral fragrances or wear it alone. The design is simple. The bottle has a velvety material that makes it feel soft.I keep the bottles in the boxes to preserve the content of the bottle though the bottle itself isn't see through. The bottle down by leak when you spray. The perfume comes out just fine

Not unisex to me, because this smells strictly like manly man fragrance. It's okay for men, but doesn't smell too impressive. Smells similar to 10 different colognes I know
