Reef 33 Review 2026: Notes & Performance

by Sara Sakina 05 Sep 2026

Reef 33 is a saffron, rosemary and oud eau de parfum that wears roughly 8–10 hours with strong sillage, and it costs $99 CAD for 100 ml at Sara Sakina — making it the flagship of the Reef Perfumes line and our top-selling fragrance over the past month. Here is what it actually smells like, where it falls short, and how it compares to its siblings in the house.

What Reef 33 smells like

The pyramid is short and deliberate: Indian saffron on top, rosemary in the heart, agarwood (oud) in the base. Per its listing, the overall character sits in amber-spice and oud-woody territory. The saffron gives it that leathery-spicy glow that anchors so much Arabian perfumery (we cover why in our saffron guide), the rosemary adds an unusual herbal-aromatic edge that keeps it from smelling like every other saffron-oud on the shelf, and the oud drydown is dark and woody rather than barnyard-raw. Fragrantica lists it as a 2020 release for women and men, and it wears genuinely unisex.

Performance

This is one of the few listings in the house with stated performance figures: expect roughly 8–10 hours of wear with strong sillage. On the compliment-getter scale that puts it firmly in evening-out territory. It is pitched for fall and winter, which matches our experience selling it in Ontario — cold air suits dense saffron-oud compositions (see our Canadian winter performance guide).

Honest cons

  • It is linear. Three notes, one per tier — the scent you get in hour one is broadly the scent you get in hour eight. If you want a fragrance that evolves dramatically, this is not it.
  • Strong sillage cuts both ways. In an office or a small classroom, one spray is plenty; two is a statement; three is a conversation with HR.
  • Season-locked. It is built for cold weather. In summer heat the saffron-oud density can turn heavy.
  • Oud is polarizing. If you have never worn oud, sample before buying a full bottle — our first-oud guide can help you decide if it is your lane.

Reef 33 vs. the rest of the house

Vs. Reef 31 ($99 CAD): Reef 31 keeps the saffron opening but swaps the herbal heart and oud base for golden amber and creamy vanilla. It is warmer, sweeter and softer — the better choice if you want the Reef DNA without oud, or something less loud for daytime.

Vs. Volcano ($129 CAD): Volcano is the complex one — cardamom, grapefruit and cypress over leather, lavender and patchouli on a tonka-labdanum-cedarwood base. It is listed for daily and office wear where Reef 33 is an evening scent. Pick Volcano if linearity is your dealbreaker; pick 33 if you want maximum presence per spray.

Vs. Arab Obaya ($99 CAD): Obaya runs pineapple over leather over oud — a brighter, fruitier entry into the same dark drydown. It shares 33's evening positioning but the opening is far juicier. If saffron reads too spicy on your skin, Obaya is the alternative.

Vs. Reef 33 White ($99 CAD): The direct flanker: berries over saffron over oud. Same amber-spice/oud-woody character, sweeter and fruitier up top. If you already own the original, White is different enough at the opening to justify itself; if you own neither, start with the original.

Who should buy it

Reef 33 suits anyone who wants a long-lasting, unmistakably Arabian saffron-oud for fall and winter evenings at a two-digit price. Skip it if you need a versatile office scent or you run hot. At $99 CAD for 100 ml with documented 8–10 hour wear, it earns its best-seller spot honestly.

Reef 33 – Eau de Parfum 100ml, $99 CAD ships from Ontario; there is also a Reef 33 gift set at $195 CAD. Explore the whole house in our Reef Perfumes collection or read the full Reef Perfumes house guide. You can test it in person at Sara Sakina, Oakville Place (Unit 242), Oakville.
