Rather than the familiar rose-oud-vanilla vocabulary, their records list specific perfumery materials by name — rosyfolia, mahonial, cocoapulse, ambrofix — alongside the conventional notes. Verdict: thirteen notes, and one of the highest-priced bottles we carry from this house. The structure is a classic fougère — lavender and sage up top, geranium in the heart, tonka bean and patchouli underneath — but two of the five base materials are named captives rather than natural notes, and two more sit in the heart, which is unusual for this price bracket and worth knowing if you like reading a pyramid. Musamam White Intense — Eau de Parfum 100 ml
Profile: spices, bergamot and orange over coconut, ylang-ylang, ambroxan and mahonial, on sandalwood, musk and benzoin. Amber Spicy. Listed unisex, for evenings.
Verdict: shorter, warmer and creamier. Coconut and ylang-ylang in the heart pull it toward the tropics, then sandalwood, musk and benzoin give it a soft resinous landing. Bergamot and mahonial are the only two notes it shares with Black Intense; nothing else overlaps. It is also fifteen dollars less, and the one of the two listed unisex. Currently out of stock. Which Musamam should you buy?
A lavender-sage fougère with a deep tonka and patchouli base: Black Intense. Coconut, ylang-ylang and sandalwood, softer and warmer: White Intense. Both are eau de parfum at 100 ml. Black Intense is presented for men and White Intense is listed unisex, and there is a real price gap between them, so budget may decide this one where it does not elsewhere in the range.
