Tobacco and vanilla perfumes pair tobacco leaf with vanilla, often with tonka, cacao, spice and woods. Of the perfumes we carry, Sero Vanilla Ember, from a Toronto house, lists tobacco leaf, tobacco blossom, vanilla, cacao, tonka and dried fruits. Among Arabian houses, Lattafa Asad adds pepper and coffee, and Assaf Tobacco Jam 50 adds lavender. Qadr by Sara Sakina keeps vanilla, tonka and spice, with coffee and no tobacco.
Key takeaways
A tobacco and vanilla perfume is a warm, spicy style built on dry tobacco leaf and sweet vanilla. Tonka bean and cacao often round out the heart, spice sits on top, and dried fruits and woods carry the base. Read together, those notes describe a cozy, sweet and slightly smoky scent for cooler weather and evenings.
Here are four perfumes on our shelves, plus our own, chosen by their published notes. Three come from Arabian houses and one from Sero, a Toronto house. Notes follow each house's published lists.
| Perfume | Tobacco-vanilla notes | Different | Strength |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vanilla Ember by Sero | Tobacco leaf, tobacco blossom, vanilla, cacao, tonka, dried fruits | No spicy or woody notes listed | Extrait de parfum |
| Asad by Lattafa | Tobacco, vanilla, a spice (black pepper), dry wood | Pineapple, coffee, iris, patchouli, amber, benzoin and labdanum; no cacao, tonka or dried fruits | Eau de parfum |
| Tobacco Jam 50 by Assaf | Tobacco, vanilla | Bergamot, lavender, amber and patchouli; no cacao, tonka or dried fruits | Extrait de parfum |
| Khamrah Dukhan by Lattafa | Spices, tobacco, tonka | Pimento, mandarin, incense, labdanum, praline, amber and benzoin; no vanilla, cacao or dried fruits listed | Eau de parfum |
| Qadr by Sara Sakina | Vanilla, tonka, spice (cardamom and saffron), woods (guaiac wood and amberwood) | Coffee, boozy notes, cade, cistus, suede, benzoin and labdanum; no tobacco, cacao or dried fruits | Extrait de parfum |
Vanilla Ember comes from Sero, a Toronto house rather than an Arabian one. Its published notes are tobacco leaf, tobacco blossom, vanilla, cacao, tonka bean and dried fruits. It lists no spicy or woody notes, so on paper it is sweet and simple. Choose it if you want tobacco and vanilla with cacao and dried fruit. It is an extrait de parfum in a 50 ml bottle.
Asad lists tobacco and vanilla, plus black pepper and dry wood. It also has pineapple, patchouli, coffee, iris, amber, benzoin and labdanum, and no cacao, tonka or dried fruit. Pineapple and coffee give it a fruitier start and a roasted middle. Choose it if you want tobacco and vanilla with pepper and coffee. It is an eau de parfum.
Tobacco Jam 50 keeps a short pyramid: bergamot and lavender on top, amber and patchouli in the heart, and vanilla and tobacco in the base. It lists no cacao, tonka or dried fruits. Bergamot and lavender give it a fresher, more aromatic start, and patchouli adds an earthy middle. Choose it if you want tobacco and vanilla with a fresher opening. It is an extrait de parfum in a 100 ml bottle.
Khamrah Dukhan lists spices, tobacco and tonka bean. It adds pimento, mandarin, incense, labdanum, orange blossom and patchouli, with praline, amber and benzoin in the base. Vanilla, cacao and dried fruits are not on its list, though praline and benzoin add a sweet side. Choose it if you like tobacco and spice and want more incense and resin. It is an eau de parfum.
Qadr is our own perfume, so here is exactly where it fits. It has vanilla and tonka, spice through cardamom and saffron, and a finish of guaiac wood and amberwood. It has no tobacco, cacao or dried fruits. Instead it adds boozy notes, coffee, cade, cistus, suede, benzoin and labdanum, so it leans resinous and smoky rather than fruity. Choose it if you love warm vanilla, tonka and spice and want coffee and suede instead of tobacco. It is an extrait de parfum with our 10 to 12 hour longevity guarantee, and there is a 5 ml tester.
